The key to smooth and shiny hair is keratin treatments. A frizz-free, glossy look is just a process away. However, it is important to know exactly what you are going to get. It is important to walk through the process before you actually do it. After all, this is about your hair and we don’t want you to be confused while sitting in front of your hairstylist. So we have created a guide about everything you need to know about keratin treatment.
What is a Keratin Treatment?
Famous for its long lasting results of up to 6 months, a keratin treatment is a process that shines and smooths your frizzy hair. Keratin treatments have many variations, both to its name and process cycle. However, some hairstylists offer a customized version of a keratin treatment by blending more than one processes to enhance the results. Some hairstylists offer a formaldehyde-free keratin treatment. Formaldehyde or no formaldehyde, a keratin treatment at a very basic level is healthy for your hair. Essential protein is injected into the porous areas of your head and results are healthy.
What does a keratin treatment do?
Our hair is made up of keratin. So, basically this process just adds the protein you have lost due to age and chemical services. By using the right amount of heat, protein is sealed back in to your head and results in glossy and shiny hair.
The process length is basically dependent on the formula used by your hairstylist. It also depends on the condition and volume of your hair. However, the process can last up to 4 hours (we definitely recommend bringing a snack). The process starts by washing the hair with a keratin safe shampoo. Depending on the formula your hairstylist is using, keratin treatments can be applied on wet or dry hair. Then using a flat iron on low or medium heat, your hairstylist simply seals the required regions, and you’re good to go!
What to expect?
When this treatment was introduced, hairstylists used formaldehyde to remove the frizz, which disturbed the natural texture to some extent. However, now the treatment is carried out without formaldehyde and alternative ingredients are used to remove the frizz, which maintains the natural texture of your hair, but if you want your hair straightened during this process, it is possible as well.
Post Treatment care:
Post product usage depends on the type of process you used, with some processes, you cannot even tie up your hair or wash your for the next 48 hours. After that critical time has passed, the shampoo you use is very important. You have to give a closer look at the ingredients of your shampoo. Sulfate-free formula shampoo is the key to healthier results.
Some processes have no downtime at all. You can even blow dry your hair immediately, but again, it is important to get the exact instructions from the salon you have received your treatment from.
