You spent as much time as you could this summer out of doors enjoying the sunshine and fresh air. And you were diligent about using sunscreen and wearing a hat, and your hair looked fantastic. Good on you, but now that the temperatures are dropping, there are some things you’ll need to do differently to keep that fantastic look moving forward into fall.
Believe it or not, fall and winter are harder on your hair than summer is. Colder air doesn’t hold as much moisture, and the heated air inside robs even more of it. Your hair will let you know this is true by drying out, appearing dull, and just generally misbehaving. Not to worry – we’ve got you, and your hair, covered.
Switch to a rich conditioning treatment, ideally one that contains nourishing oils. You can add a few drops of hair care oil to your regular shampoo. It will help keep your hair shiny and make it stronger to resist breakage from drying out. Try conditioning your hair before shampooing if your hair is extremely dry. It can help seal in moisture before your shampoo can rinse it away.
Dry, cool air can also rob your scalp of moisture, which may lead to flaky, itchy skin. If you find this happening, try switching out at least one of your shampoo sessions to a dandruff shampoo every week. These products contain ingredients that give the scalp the moisture it needs to stay healthy.
